The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the neurotrophin family, that controls survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. This protein is closely related to both nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. It may be involved in the maintenance of the adult nervous system, and may affect development of neurons in the embryo when it is expressed in human placenta. NTF3-deficient mice generated by gene targeting display severe movement defects of the limbs. The mature peptide of this protein is identical in all mammals examined including human, pig, rat and mouse.

Biological Activity: mNGF 2.5S was bioassayed for neurotrophic activity using the rat pheochromocytoma cell PC12 cultures over a period of 7 – 14 days. The neurotrophic activity is in the range of 0.5-50ng/ml. The recommended concentration to be used in vitro for maintenance of sympathetic and sensory nerve cultures is 50ng/ml medium.
Reconstitution: Reconstitute in sterile water or DMEM at a concentration of at least 10µg/ml and store at -80°C before use. Medium with mNGF cannot be reused due to mNGF degradation.
Long Term Storage: -20°C
Use/Stability: Stable for 2-3 weeks when stored at room temperature. After reconstitution, stable for up to 1 week when stored at +4°C and for 4-6 weeks at -80°C.
