由玫瑰链霉菌Streptomyces roseus MB-26-AI产生的胰蛋白酶抑剂，它是许多蛋白酶抑制剂中的一种。纯亮肽素熔点110～140℃，旋光度-56°(c=1.0，甲醇)。溶于水、甲醇、乙醇、丁醇、二甲亚砜，不溶于乙酸乙酯、丙酮、氯仿、己烷等，对Rydon-Smith、坂口呈附哇反应，对茚三酮、三氯化铁、蒽酮、莫利氏呈阳性反应。亮肽素可抑制胰蛋白酶、木瓜蛋白酶、组织蛋酶B、血纤维蛋白溶酶、激肽释放酶等，它的抑制作用与底物呈竞争抑制。亮肽素（Leupeptin）能抑制多种丝氨酸和半胱氨酸蛋白酶；抑肽素（pepstatin）抑制天冬氨酸蛋白酶；抑肽酶（aprotinin）能抑制许多丝氨酸蛋白酶；苯丁抑制剂（bestatin）能抑制氨基酸多肽酶 .
