The four tocopherols (α, β, δ, and γ) and four tocotrienols (α, β, δ, and γ) are forms of vitamin E, which is known for its antioxidant activity.1↗ Tocotrienols are found in high concentrations in palm oil and rice bran. Recent studies observe that tocotrienols may be more effective antioxidants than α-tocopherol, the most abundant form of vitamin E.2↗ Spontaneously hypertensive rats fed a diet which includes γ-tocotrienol show significant reduction of systolic blood pressure and an increase of nitric oxide synthase activity in blood vessels.3↗ γ-Tocotrienol at 20 µM induces apoptosis of malignant sympathoadrenal (+SA) murine mammary epithelial cells.4↗
